The 25-year-old has played nine times for the Swiss Super League outfit since signing a three-year deal in August but is yet to find the net for Peter Zeidler’s side. He also tested positive for coronavirus in November but has fallen down the pecking order at the Kybunpark.

Kamberi didn’t feature for St Gallen in recent friendly matches against FC Wil and SCR Altach and is unlikely to force his way into Zeidler’s thoughts for the club’s remaining games in January.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s home game against FC Vaduz, Zeidler confirmed that Kamberi was effectively his fifth-choice striker, despite being signed to replace Swiss internationalist Cedric Itten, who joined Rangers in the summer.

Zeidler said: "He has others in front of him; there are four strikers ahead of him. In the remaining matches this month, he won't be playing. We've discussed it with him.”

Nau.ch is reporting that German second-tier side Bochum are in talks with Kamberi over a potential loan move. The Nordrhein-Westfalen outfit is currently second in the 2.Bundesliga just one point off leaders Hamburg but several English Championship sides are also understood to be keeping tabs on the player.

Kamberi has experience of playing in Germany after spending time on loan with Karlsruher during the 2016/17 season, and could team up with former Celtic defender Cristian Gamboa, who joined Bochum after leaving the Hoops in August 2019.

Kamberi was a reported target for Hull City and Sunderland during his time at Hibs.

Initially signed on loan by Neil Lennon in January 2018, Kamberi joined on a permanent deal in the summer and scored 21 goals in 70 appearances in green and white.

He left Easter Road to join Rangers on loan in January 2020 and attracted criticism from fans of the Capital club over comments he made referring to the temporary switch as a "dream move".

Kamberi returned to East Mains for pre-season training in July last year but was told he didn't feature in Jack Ross’s first-team plans and eventually departed in August.
