Former Hamilton Accies midfielder Alex Gogic is on Hibs’ radar, but any move for the Cypriot - and other transfer targets - will depend heavily on the financial situation Hibs find themselves in after the coronavirus crisis.

Gogic is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder who can also operate as a central defender. He left Hamilton after four successful years with the club last week. Capped by Cyprus Under-21s and formerly of Swansea and Olympiakos, Gogic – who has returned to Wales with his partner due to football being put in cold storage – is currently a free agent and is being by monitored by teams both north and south of the border.

Hibs are in need of a defensive central midfielder, particularly as loanees Stephane Omeonga and Greg Docherty have returned to Genoa and Rangers respectively, while Steven Whittaker - who covered that position before football was suspended in March - has left the club. The team has lacked a midfield enforcer since both Marvin Bartley and Mark Milligan were released by then head coach Paul Heckingbottom last summer.

However, Easter Road head coach Jack Ross is likely to be working with a vastly reduced budget for the 2020/21 campaign as the impact of the coronavirus crisis hits home for many Scottish clubs.

Hibs have sold more than 8,000 season tickets for the 2020/21 Premiership campaign, but Scottish football is set to resume in August behind closed doors, affecting revenue streams dramatically.

The club are looking to sell want-away forward Florian Kamberi, who burned his bridges with the Easter Road hierarchy and supporters with comments made after his loan move to Rangers in January. Funds raised and wages freed by a move would undoubtedly give Ross a welcomed boost to his transfer reserves.

Hibs have also been linked with a move for 25-year-old English winger Drey Wright, who is a free agent after leaving St Johnstone last week.

Hibs are due back at training on Monday, June 15, although the Evening News understands that, at this point, no trials have been arranged for any players and that it will be only current staff that will return. Hibs have also vowed not to bring in any additions on permanent deals until wages - which were cut to help the club deal with revenue losses during lockdown - are reinstated to full levels.
