Former Hearts captain believes Hibs hero Kevin Nisbet should be in Scotland's Euro 2020 squad

Former Hearts captain Michael Stewart believes Kevin Nisbet should be involved in the national team set-up as he called on the Hibs striker to be included at next summer’s European Championships if he keeps up his current form.

The summer signing from Dunfermline Athletic struck his tenth goal of the campaign in the 2-2 draw with Celtic at Easter Road on Saturday afternoon.

With the national team struggling for a consistent goal threat in attack, having failed to net twice in the same match since September’s victory over the Czech Republic, Stewart insists it’s a no-brainer he should be involved.

He said on BBC Radio Scotland: “If you look at the strikers who are in the national side at the moment. Lyndon Dykes, Oliver McBurne, Leigh Griffiths, Callum Paterson, who’s played there, and Lawrence Shankland. Out of those, I’d have Dykes and Griffiths and then Nisbet as the next available striker.

“He should be given the opportunity. I think anyone who watches Scottish football and is looking forward to the Euros should be singing his praises, shouting from the rooftops to make sure he gets the recognition, because he should be there.

“Lawrence Shankland is a goalscorer but he’s only got a couple of goals this season. Oliver McBurnie, we’ve talked about it endlessly – not good enough. Callum Paterson – not good enough.

“Nisbet is into double figures already. His all-round game is there. He deserves to be in the national side. When the World Cup qualifiers come around in March he should be in the squad. If he’s pushing double figures when the next break comes around March you cannot ignore that.”
