Former Hibs player in x-rated exit from latest club as he takes aim at 'wrong'uns' after departure
The ex Aston Villa and Swindon man wasn’t happy with the circumstances of his exit from an EFL League Two side
Former Hibs forward Harry McKirdy has left Crawley Town with a bang as he took aim at some members of the club in an X-rated social media post.
The 29-year old made 33 Hibees appearances without scoring a goal during his three years at Easter Road, however this season he’s been far more prolific. McKirdy finished Crawley’s top scorer with eight goals and helped them maintain their status in the football league, in turn, he was unhappy when the club told him he was being released via a ‘37 second phone call’. He was signed by the Red Devils last summer on a one-year contract which won’t be renewed, as he now searches for a new club.
A goalless draw at home to Salford City was enough to secure survival for Crawley, who beat Harrogate Town and Barrow to the drop. Had they have went down, it would’ve marked back-to-back relegations. Before his X-rated rant at the club, the former Hibs man stated he was over the moon that he helped them stay in the Professional English football pyramid.
Former Hibee’s X-rated rant following Crawley exit
The forward posted a fairly blunt Instagram story to announce his departure from the club, where he also paid tribute to his beloved Chelsea. It read: "Met some good people, met some f****** wrong'ens, that's football. Onto the next. Up the f****** Chels."
It remains unclear who he was referring to in his comments, however a later X post revealed why he was angry at the circumstances of his departure. He said: “Touched on it throughout the season. I wanted somewhere to settle down & call home, wasn’t to be. Relieved I wasn’t part of a group that took the club out the league. Thought I deserved more than a 37 second phone call but again that’s football.”
McKirdy on survival
There were jubilant scenes at Broadfield Stadium after their survival-clinching stalemate as their 15-year streak in the professional leagues lives on. The club have since appointed former Celtic striker Colin Kazim-Richards as their new head coach.
Following their triumph, an emotional McKirdy once again cited his boyhood club to emit his joy: He said: "I'd love to be here. I've never felt like that watching a game of football. The only time I've ever felt like that was in Porto watching Chelsea in the Champions League final."
