Former Hibs star set to join fellow Scotland international in Serie A as £9m move could see Hibees windfall

Striker had also been linked with a move to Celtic

Hibs record breaker Kieron Bowie is set for yet another big-money move - this time from Hellas Verona to Sassuolo, seven months on from his lucrative Easter Road exit.

The 23-year old striker switched Leith for the north of Italy in January for around £7 million - the Premiership club’s highest ever fee gained for an outgoing transfer. Bowie wasn’t able to save Hellas Verona from relegation to the Serie B, however he is heading straight back to the top flight, as reports in Italy suggest Sassuolo are prepared to meet his £9m price tag.

The twice-capped Scotland international has been the subject of an intense transfer race throughout the summer window, with Celtic, Bologna and Cagliari all linked, as well as Sassuolo - who have fellow former Hibee and Scotland star Josh Doig in their current roster. The mid-table Serie A side are prepared to offer striker Samuele Mulattieri to Verona as part of the deal for Bowie.

Hibs receive potential windfall if Bowie moves on

It is understood that Hibs inserted a sell-on clause for Bowie when he made the transfer to Hellas Verona earlier this year. In a struggling relegation-bound side, the former Raith Rovers and Fulham man managed to get on the scoresheet against the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Bologna and Torino.

Earlier in the window, Verona owner Cristian Puscasiu claimed he would do everything in his power to ensure they regain top flight status ‘as soon as possible’. At this point, they placed a £13m price tag on Bowie to scare off potential suitors. However, their willingness to negotiate with Sassuolo’s slightly lower offer indicates this was just a deterrent.

Bowie netted 15 times in 52 Hibs appearances after signing from Fulham in 2024. The Kirkcaldy-born number nine previously came through the ranks at Raith. As he now looks set to return to the Serie A, he’ll re-join the likes of Scott McTominay, Billy Gilmour, Lewis Ferguson, Lennon Miller and Che Adams on the list of Scotland internationals in the top flight.
