Hibbies set to pack out Tynecastle

HIBS are set to receive around 13,000 tickets for their League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone after the SPFL confirmed three-quarters of Tynecastle will be handed over to Easter Road supporters.

St Johnstone fans will be housed in the Gorgie ground’s Roseburn Stand with the other three sides, the Main, Wheatfield and Gorgie Stands housing the Capital outfit’s supporters for the tie which will be played on Saturday, January 30.

One section of the Main Stand will initially be reserved for Saints fans but if it is not required they will be released to the Edinburgh club which would mean their allocation being lifted to around 13,500.

The other semi-final, between Ross County and Celtic, will be played at Hampden the following day with both games kicking off at 3.00pm.

But all four clubs have agreed ticket prices across both games. Adults pay £20 and juveniles (under-16s) £5 with reduced admission fees for wheelchair uses. Hibs will announce ticket sale information in due course.

January’s match is a repeat of the League Cup semi-final between Hibs and St Johnstone in 2007 which was also played at Tynecastle in front of a crowd of 16,112 when the same arrangements were in place. Hibs won 3-1 after extra-time and went on to beat Kilmarnock 5-1 in the final.

Saints at that time were in the old First Division.

But having yet to concede a goal in the competition and beating two top-flight clubs along the way, a 2-0 victory over Aberdeen followed by a 3-0 triumph against Dundee United, Alan Stubbs’ players, currently on a run of 14 matches undefeted, will be quietly confident of securing their place in the final, the 70th in the compeition, which will take place on Sunday, March 13.
