Hibs ace Jason Naismith transfer update as parent club Peterborough expect his return

The right-back has been on loan at Hibs since the start of the season

Peterborough United expect Hibs loanee Jason Naismith to return to London Road at the end of the season.

The right-back impressed at Easter Road with his committed and powerful displays following his temporary switch back in September.

He made 14 appearances, netting one goal – a thunderous strike against Kilmarnock – before an injury sustained in a Scottish Cup clash with Dundee United in January curtailed his campaign.

The English League One club’s director of football Barry Fry told the Evening News’ sister title the Peterborough Telegraph that there has been no movement with regards to a permanent deal.

“I think Jason will be back,” he said. “Hibernian have not said they want to keep him yet. The injury has complicated things.”

The Evening News understands Hibs are not ruling out a return for the 25-year-old who is a popular figure. But with the current climate bringing uncertainty and the player recovering from a knee ligament injury it will likely be a waiting game.

The player has expressed his enjoyment of playing for Hibs and suggested he would be more than happy to make the loan switch permanent.

He is contracted to Peterborough, who he joined from Ross County in 2018, until next summer.

“Hibs are a massive club,” Nasimith said earlier this month. “When I signed it was the first time I felt like I was a proper footballer.

“No disrespect to Peterborough but I won a watch getting a loan deal from there to Hibs. I love playing for the club and was set on going there at the end of the season.”
