Initially joining from the R&A as Head of Marketing and Brand Partnerships in December 2019, McEwan was installed as Commercial chief in August 2021 and also spent a six-month period as interim CEO following the departure of Leeann Dempster.

During his time at the club McEwan worked on sourcing new income streams for the club and maximising sponsorship opportunities and retail deals. Among his key contributions were the decision to carry a ‘Thank You NHS’ message in lieu of a shirt sponsor during the 2020/21 season and the ‘Football for a Fiver’ initiative.

He was also heavily involved in the club’s efforts to overhaul the matchday experience and told the Evening News in an exclusive interview last year that ‘nine of the world’s top [sportswear] brands’ were jostling to succeed Macron as the team’s new technical partner, adding: “Joma really wanted our business and positioned a fantastic package for the club – the best it’s ever had.”

On top of that, a string of partnerships have also been secured with leading firms in the fields of technology, spirits, car sales, and energy. The club has also worked hard to link up with local firms and organisations such as Forth Capital, Dunedin IT, and Capital Credit Union.

Hibs chief executive Ben Kensell paid tribute to his departing colleague, saying: “On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Greg for the big contribution he has made to Hibs during his tenure. He has left the Club in a strong position commercially, with a good platform that we can build on. He’ll always be a friend to this football club and I’m sure everyone wishes him the best of luck as he embarks upon his next challenge.”

McEwan added: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Hibs and have so many fantastic memories to cherish. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Board, the supporters, businesses, and everyone else who has supported the club since I joined.

"We have achieved so much off the pitch and gone through so much over the last three years. I look forward to seeing how the club progresses in the future.”
