Hibs assistant John Potter gives his verdict on Rangers fracas and subsequent disciplinary action

John Potter has admitted he’s happy with the outcome of his disciplinary hearing after being hit by a charge of misconduct following a touchline bust-up with Rangers technical coach Tom Culshaw.

The Hibs assistant head coach was summoned along with Culshaw to Hampden to account for his actions during December’s match between the clubs at Easter Road, the flashpoint coming as Ryan Porteous saw red for a crude tackle on Ibrox defender Borna Barisic.

Potter escaped with a censure, while Culshaw received a two-match ban.

Potter conceded he could have behaved better on the night, revealing he’d apologised “pretty quickly” for what happened – although he didn’t think there was much wrong in what he did.

Speaking for the first time about the incident, he said: “I probably reacted to something else that happened at that time. Hopefully I have learned.

“We went up and told the powers that be what happened and our side of the story and I am just delighted to still be on the touchline.

“You want to look after your own players, your own team and your own staff. If you think there’s other people trying to influence other people then I will stick up for my players and our staff.

“Whether it was right or wrong, and could it have been done a different way, then probably yes, but it happens and it’s forgotten about now.

“It probably looks worse because there were a lot of people involved and a lot of people came from nowhere, but I stayed most of the time in my technical area.

“I left it once by a yard, so the majority of time I was there. I’m happy with the outcome.”
