Jack Ross has claimed Hibs’ Ibrox performance shows the Easter Road club have as good a chance as any of winning the Scottish Cup – if they beat Lowland League outfit BSC Glasgow.

The Capital outfit go into Sunday’s fifth-round tie as overwhelming favourites but, revealed Ross, he’s underlined the importance to his players of winning the game against the part-timers.

He insists he’ll approach the match – which will be played at BSC’s temporary home at Alloa’s Indodrill Stadium – in

exactly the same way as the midweek game against Rangers.

“Our preparation for the game will be just the same,” said the Hibs head coach. “Consistent in that we will offer BSC the same respect as we did Rangers in terms of preparation and analysis.

“But it is a big, big game for us because we know how it affects our season. There is a big prize at stake, getting into the quarter-finals and we know if we get to that stage we will have as good a chance as anyone because we proved (at Ibrox) we can be really competitive – and that’s a step forward again.”

Ross called on his players to replicate the performance they had produced against Rangers, Hibs beaten by an Ianis Hagi goal six minutes from time. He said: “It was fine margins that cost us but fine margins we have to keep improving and getting better at.

“We have to grow that mentality that we believe we can go there (Ibrox), be competitive and can win the game. We are getting there, it’s just that consistency which is the next step.

“We wanted the players to trust themselves on the ball and for big periods of the game we were good which is difficult because we spent long periods out of possession because we were playing a good team at a difficult venue.

“I was proud of what they gave me given our two previous performances against Rangers. We wanted to put that right which required hard work, effort, resilience and mental strength and we did that for huge parts of the game.”
