Hibs chief hails players, staff and fans on social media for having club's 'best interests at heart'

Hibs CEO Leeann Dempster praised the club’s players, staff and fans following news of an agreement over deferral of wages.

Dempster posted her message on Twitter where she hailed “good people” for having the club’s “best interests at heart”.

It comes after Hibs announced they had reached an agreement with players, staff and management to defer between 20-50 percent of wages for the duration of the coronavirus.

Employees are expected to be reimbursed in two tranches, while it is understood the club won’t make new signings until everyone is back to full salary.

During the period of talks with staff over deferral of wages, season tickets have been released for the new season despite timescales being unknown. More than 1,000 fans responded within the first three days to renew their brief.

Dempster tweeted: “This club has known a few challenges and this is another to overcome. In times like this you want good people around you and we've no shortage of them. I'm grateful for the backing we've had from players and staff alike, who really do have Hibernian's best interests at heart.

“And the same definitely applies to our supporters. It's heartening and humbling to have you all with us and responding the way that you are. We can't wait to have games at Easter Road for you again. In the meantime, stay safe and look after each other.”

Hibs sporting director Graeme Mathie posted: “The reaction from players, staff and supporters has been incredible - one of genuine understanding and appreciation of the need to help each other. #WeAreAllHibs is more than a marketing campaign, it’s a reality. Thank you. #GGTTH”.
