Scotland boss Steve Clarke will announce his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday and 24-year-old Cadden is reportedly being closely considered as the national team boss looks to strengthen his options in the right-back and right wing-back positions.

The Hibs player, who signed for the third-placed Leith club in January from MLS champions Columbus Crew, has proved himself as one of the best in the Premiership in those roles, and despite it being nearly three years since he made his international debut, in a friendly against Peru - adding a second cap, against Mexico a few days later - he recently spoke of his desire to build on that tally.

With one eye on this summer’s Euros, he said: “It’s the pinnacle of your career...Scotland has always been an ambition. To be able to do it twice has been amazing and hopefully I can do it more.”

Clarke, who has guided the Scotland men to a major finals for the first since 1998, is now focusing on fine-tuning his squad ahead of the Euro Championships, while looking to take that positive momentum into the World Cup qualifiers, which kick off later this month, at home to Austria, before matches against Israel and Faroe Islands.

Stephen O’Donnell and Liam Palmer have been the national boss’ favoured options on that right flank but Cadden’s recent displays have moved him into the frame and he now has one last opportunity to impress, in Dingwall on Saturday, before the squad is announced.
