Hibs defender Paul Hanlon has been called up to the Scotland squad for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League clash against the Czech Republic.

He joins Easter Road colleagues Paul McGinn and Ryan Porteous in Steve Clarke’s squad and could win a first senior cap for his country.

Hanlon, 30, captained Scotland at Under-19 and Under-21 level and has been called up once previously, for a friendly against the Netherlands in 2017.

The long-serving centre-back is among the Scottish Premiership’s top defensive performers and has been a key part of the Capital club’s strong start to the season.

Head coach Jack Ross said: “It’s thoroughly deserved after his strong start to the season.

“Paul is a manager’s dream to work with. He’s a model professional and a consistent performer.

“I know how much this means to him and it reflects well on the club to have the two Pauls and Ryan involved.

“I’ve no doubt all three will give good accounts of themselves.”
