The 2022/23 season for Hibs will very much be remembered depending on what happens on the final day. Beat Hearts and move into third place and it’ll be a qualified success. Sure there will be some regret they shot themselves in the foot many times, which ultimately cost them of getting group-stage European football next term, but ultimately it’ll provide a happy ending and real hope for the future. A draw or defeat on the other hand, and they’re again looking up at their biggest rivals and Aberdeen between them and the position they want to be in.
There’s been a real mixture of good and bad, and that’s reflected in these awards...
9. The Terry Butcher Award - The line-up at Tynecastle
On the flip side, the biggest tactical error came at Tynecastle. Harry McKirdy had only started one match (where he was taken off after 45 minutes), while Will Fish had featured only a handful of times off the bench before the New Year’s Derby encounter. So Johnson was really taking a leap of faith when he decided to pair the two of them together down Hibs’ right flank – with centre-back Fish operating at full-back, no less. They were each culpable for the opening goal and hooked at the half with Hibs already two goals down. Photo: Mark Scates - SNS Group
10. The Best Future Trivia Answer - Momodou Bojang
Hibs’ foray into the Gambian football market didn’t go particularly well, it’s fair to say. Listen, it’s not the worst of signings because it was a cheap punt with little risk. He was on loan with the possibility of a permanent deal if he performed. If he didn’t, he could be sent back. And he didn’t. Unfortunately for Hibs, after he returned home he complained about his treatment from the club. His comments were very much exaggerated, but it was still the kind of negative PR the club could have done without. Very much a “oh aye, remember him?” name for Hibees down the road.
