Hibs are facing competition from Premiership rivals St Mirren for the signature of Alex Gogic.

The Paisley club are reported to have offered a contract to the defensive midfielder, who is currently a free agent after leaving Hamilton Accies last month following four successful years at New Douglas Park.

The 26-year-old is also on Hibs’ radar, but any move for the Cypriot - and other transfer targets - will depend heavily on the financial situation the Easter Road side find themselves in after the coronavirus crisis.

Saints boss Jim Goodwin will be hoping to win the race for the player with Jack Ross unable to make new signings until his current players are back on full pay following the introduction of a wage deferral scheme at the start of the coronavirus shutdown.

Gogic, formerly of Swansea and Olympiakos and capped for his country at under 21 level, is a tough-tackling defensive midfielder who can also operate as a central defender.

He made 84 appearances since joining Accies in 2017, scoring two goals.
