Jack Ross believes securing a Scottish Cup semi-final place was the perfect way to wrap up what has been a good week for the Easter Road club.

Hard on the heels of owner Ron Gordon pledging to double Hibs’ player budget within the next three years, the head coach looked on as his side put Championship side Inverness Caley to the sword.

Five different players - Adam Jackson, Scott Allan, Greg Docherty, Stephane Omeonga and Jamie Gullan - all got their names on the scoresheet in the 5-2 victory in which Caley had defender Brad McKay red carded for a crude tackle on Hibs striker Christian Doidge.

But, insisted Ross, the win wasn’t as comfortable as the final scoreline might suggest, Carl Tremarco and Nikolay Todorov netting for the Highland outfit as Hibs, yet again, failed to keep a clean sheet.

Ross’ side also enjoyed the luxury of a missed penalty, skipper Paul Hanlon taking over spot-kick duties after Marc McNulty and Allan had failed from 12 yards out only to see his effort saved by Caley goalkeeper Mark Ridgers before Jackson broke the deadlock.

“I think we deserved to win,” he said. “But it was far from comfortable, it was tough, competitive.

“John [Robertson, Caley’s manager] recognised how we’d been playing recently and was brave in his system but that made the pitch big and that suits us

“I think we created a lot in the game.

“With Ron being here, outlining his plans and vision for the club, to progress to semi-final in a Hibs type of game was a good way to finish the week.

“We can sit back and see who else gets through to the semi-finals.”
