Hibs Ladies have announced they have appointed Dean Gibson as their new first-team head coach.

Gibson, who had been in charge of the club’s Under-23 squad, takes over from Grant Scott who resigned five weeks ago after 19 months in charge. His backroom team will be announced in due course.

The SWPL Cup holders kick of the new league campaign against city rivals Spartans on Sunday, February 23, however, it will very much be a new-look squad following the departures of Jamie-Lee Napier, Cailin Michie, Chelsea Cornet and goalkeeper Jenna Fife.

However, Gibson is excited about the task in hand.

“What appeals to me about Hibernian is how the club operates and what we try to achieve. We always identify young players with talent,” he told the club website.

"Although it is the first team, it still is a very young squad and I still think all of those players can be developed further to take their career to the next stage.

“I’m happy with the squad. I believe we’ve still got some of the best players in the country. However, we could consider bringing in one or two players to help strengthen the depth.

"The strength of the squad is good, there’s still a team there that can go and compete. But if we want to do that we need to have depth to cope with any injuries.”

“I’ve been a fan of this club all my life and I want the same for the fans. I like my team to be attacking and on the front foot.”
