Hibs launch 'unique' new partnership with Stenhousemuir in first for Scottish football

The link-up follows a proposal by Rangers during the summer to have strategic partnerships between clubs after the Ibrox club’s moves to install Old Firm colt teams in the bottom league received a cool response.

The strategic partnership plan was first conceived by Stenhousemuir chairman Iain McMenemy and it is no surprise the Ochilview club are first to confirm such an association.

Among the benefits is it will establish a framework for players to go on loan from Hibs to Stenhousemuir.

A maximum of four players are currently allowed to go on loan to the same club from another club. Prior to this season it was only two. There are moves to try and increase the number to six.

Stenhousemuir already have three players on loan from Hibs, Callum Yeats, Jayden Fairley and goalkeeper Paddy Martin.

“We are really pleased to have secured this strategic partnership with Stenhousemuir,” said Hibs sporting director Graeme Mathie. “The notion of having Strategic Partnerships was mooted in the summer as part of discussions on how to improve Scottish football and it was something we were really keen to explore.”

Hibs recently announced another partnership with USL Championship side Charleston Battery.

Stenhousemuir chief executive Jamie Swinney said: “Stenhousemuir FC is delighted to have established a formal working relationship with Hibernian FC. The strategic partnership provides a unique and exciting opportunity for both clubs and the emerging young players within the Hibernian FC pathway.”
