Hibernian midfielder Alex Gogic played 45 minutes for Cyprus in a 2-1 defeat to Greece this afternoon.

The friendly match appearance earns Gogic, a summer signing from Hamilton Accies, a third international cap – and a preview of a potential opponent when the 26-year-old Cypriot returns to Scotland for domestic duties.

Facing Cyprus in the Greek goal was Vasilios Barkas of Celtic – Hibs’ next SPFL opponents on November 21 after the international break is complete.

Barkas played the full 90 minutes in the match and the home side took an early lead in Athens as Christos Tzolis found the net after only eight minutes. On 17 minutes the hosts doubled their lead at the Giorgios Kamaras Stadium, through Giorgios Giakoumakis.

Gogic was one of two changes made at the break, replaced by Juventus’ Grigoris Kastanos and the change helped reduce the deficit as Barkas was beaten by Marios Elias just before the hour-mark.

Cyprus host Luxembourg on Saturday before travelling to Montenegro on Tuesday.
