The Rugby Park side are alleged to have flouted coronavirus protocols in the lead-up to their Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell on Friday October 2, which was postponed as a result of the Ayrshire outfit not being able to field a team, with six individuals returning positive Covid-19 tests.

A statement from Kilmarnock ahead of the game read: “Six players in total have now tested positive and following discussions with NHS Ayrshire & Arran Public Health, the Scottish Government, East Ayrshire Council and the footballing authorities, our entire first-team playing squad has been advised to self-isolate until October 14.

"The SPFL Board met this afternoon and agreed to our request to postpone the fixture and an investigation will now be carried out by the league around the circumstances leading to the postponement.”

Following the league’s probe, the SPFL has confirmed that a hearing will take place in the near future.

A spokesperson for the SPFL said: “The SPFL has today announced that disciplinary proceedings have been commenced against Kilmarnock FC. It is alleged that Kilmarnock FC breached the SPFL’s Covid-19 Regulations during the lead-up to their postponed League Match v Motherwell FC on Friday, 2 October.

“A hearing will be held before a Sub-Committee of the Board of the SPFL, chaired by an independent legally-qualified chair.

“The date of the hearing will be announced in due course.”
