The 22-year-old, whose had started the season as third-choice left back behind Josh Doig and Lewis Stevenson, seized his chance by turning in an impressive performance in the 2-2 draw with the defending champions at Easter Road.

His contribution has been recognised by the SPFL, who upon including Mackie in their Team of the Week, stated: “The youngster was a surprise starter for Hibs' Premiership clash with Celtic, but he kept Jeremie Frimpong very quiet and was solid throughout the 90 minutes of the 2-2 draw.”

Statistics provided by Hibs’ head of performance analysis Calvin Charlton and @InStatFootball also reveal the huge contribution Mackie made across the 90 minutes, making the most tackles in the game (11) and third-most interceptions (11).

He also led the team in Total Attacking Actions (86), Total Passes (42) and Forward Passes (32).

Mackie made the most tackles in the league last weekend and was the leading left-back for Interceptions, Defensive Challenges Won and Chances Created. He was the second-furthest Hibs plauyer for Sprint Distance in the game (254m) and second overall in Total High Intensity Distance (788m).

“Stats speak for themselves!” Calvin Charlton posted on Twitter. “Incredible when you consider it was his first competitive league start in 11 months and 14 months since his last Scottish Premiership start. He also leads the club on the 5min WattBike challenge, which is horrible - trust me!”
