Allan Campbell has been likened to former Hibs star John McGinn.

The Motherwell midfield ace is a reported target for Jack Ross as he looks to add to his midfield before the transfer window closes on Monday.

Hibs are not the only side interested with Aberdeen also keen in the 22-year-old.

Derek McInnes was effusive in his praise of the player last month when he put in a man of the match performance in Motherwell’s 3-0 defeat of the Dons.

"Campbell comes up and plays the game to win points, we go out to play a game of fitba," the Aberdeen manager said. "The wee boy Campbell was everything that encapsulated Motherwell’s performance.

"He was first to support, to the break of the ball, he was back tackling. We needed a few more Allan Campbells in our team today."

Despite the player in the final year of his contract it would reportedly take £500,000 to sign him, ever after his contract expired due to training compensation rules.

Motherwell assistant coach Keith Lasley reckons whoever manages to sign him will be getting a player with a career trajectory similar to John McGinn, who moved to Aston Villa after starring on a weekly basis for Hibs.

“John McGinn has obviously progressed really quickly but there are definite similarities," he told the Daily Record. “I remember playing against him and Kenny McLean and thinking that the two boys could go somewhere.

“I look at Allan and have the same thoughts. Football careers take you on different paths and I’m not saying he’ll end up at Aston Villa or a club of that size in the next six months but Allan certainly has the tools and the attitude to achieve that.”

Motherwell haven't given up on keeping the player at Fir Park.

The midfielder has been a key influence under Stephen Robinson and has taken on even more responsibility with David Turnbull having left for Celtic.

Lasley revealed the extent of his dedication to his craft.

“Allan saved up his win bonuses and built a gym in his garage," he said. “He never bought an X-Box or put pictures on his Instagram it’s a case of that boy is going to get the absolute best out of what he has got.”
