Hibs have hailed the impact of their four loan players after confirming that they have returned to their parent clubs following the end of the 2019-20 season.

Defender Jason Naismith returns to Peterborough United, midfielders Greg Docherty and Stephane Omeonga go back to Rangers and Genoa respectively, while striker Marc McNulty returns to Reading.

Right-back Naismith joined on a season-long loan last summer, making 14 appearances and scoring one goal before his campaign was ended by a serious knee injury suffered in the 2-2 draw against Dundee United in the Scottish Cup on January 19.

He has one year left on his contract at the Posh, but the English League One club have indicated that he does not feature in manager Darren Ferguson’s future plans.

McNulty and Omeonga both returned for a second loan spell in January, with Docherty arriving on transfer deadline day having struggled for first team opportunities at Ibrox in the first half of the season.

All three have two years left on their current deals at their parent clubs, so any return to Easter Road would likely involve another loan deal once a start date for the new Scottish Premiership season is confirmed.

Hibs thanked the four players for their “important contribution to the club, on and off the pitch” as they paid tribute to each of them individually.

The club stated: “All four have added something different to the group and were very popular members of the dressing room in their own way.

“Greg is a model professional, with maturity beyond his years. Jason has shown unbelievable resilience and, even after suffering his injury, was an important presence around the training ground and Easter Road on matchdays.

“Marc and Stephane, of course, already had that strong relationship with the supporters from their initial loan spells and it was a pleasure to work with them again.”
