Hibs to face former European foes in Easter Road friendly to mark anniversary

Danish side will visit Edinburgh for pre-season fixture next month

Hibs will mark the anniversary of their 2016 Scottish Cup triumph and European adventure with a friendly against Danish side Brondby.

The game will serve as a rematch of the Europa League qualifier between the sides a decade ago, which Hibs lost in a penalty shoot-out after the tie finished 1-1 on aggregate.

Hibs were beaten 1-0 at home in the first leg but forced extra-time and penalties in the second leg in Copenhagen thanks to a goal from then captain and current manager David Gray, who later went off injured.

John McGinn missed Hibs' first penalty in the shootout, and despite Paul Hanlon, Grant Holt and Martin Boyle converting theirs, Brondby took it 5-3.

European qualification was' Hibs reward for defeating Rangers in the Scottish Cup final the previous season with the 3-2 victory at Hampden ending an 114-year wait to lift the trophy.

Now, exactly 10 years on, Brondby will visit Easter Road on Saturday, July 18, for a pre-season friendly with a 1pm kick-off.

Brondy, who are currently without a manager after sacking Steve Cooper in May, finished the 2025-26 season in fourth place in the Danish Superliga. They also reached the Uefa Conference League play-off round before being knocked out by Strasbourg.

Tickets for the friendly have been priced at £16 for adults £14 for Over 65s, and £10 for Under-18s while 2026-27 season ticket holders will be given a £6 discount across all ticket price classes.
