Hibs have knocked back a bid from Polish outfit Lech Poznan for striker Florian Kamberi.

Lech, currently fifth in the Ekstraklasa, made an offer for the 24-year-old, but while the figure involved is uncertain, it was clearly not enough to tempt the Easter Road side into selling.

Kamberi, who arrived in Edinburgh initially on loan from Swiss club Grasshoppers Zurich two years ago before making the move permanent that summer, still has 18 months of his Hibs contract remaining.

However, he has continually been linked with a move away from the Capital, with Swiss side Basel having sent scouts to watch him in action. English Championship club Brentford have also been credited with an interest.

It is understood Lech proposed taking Kamberi on a permanent deal, making a downpayment immediately with the remainder to come in the summer.

It now remains to be seen whether the Poles will return with an improved offer before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, but with Christian Doidge and Oli Shaw the only other strikers currently on their books and Kamberi highly regarded by the club, Hibs would only sell for a substantial fee.

Zurich-born Kamberi qualifies not only to play for Switzerland but Kosovo and Albania and was included in the Albania squad for the first time in November.

But delays in processing the paperwork required to transfer his international status from Switzerland to Albania, and a slight ankle injury, meant that he was unable to play in their matches with Andorra and France.

Kamberi, who has scored eight goals for Hibs this season, missed the club’s final two matches of 2019 - the Edinburgh derby against Hearts at Tynecastle and away to Livingston - after picking up a knee injury during the 3-0 defeat by Rangers.

He took advantage of being sidelined to return to Switzerland during that period but rejoined Jack Ross’ squad for their winter training camp on the Costa del Sol last week, although he sat out the friendly win over Dutch side Willem II as a precaution.

Head coach Ross has confirmed Kamberi will be in his squad for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie away to Championship leaders Dundee United.
