Hibs v Rangers: Steven Gerrard confirms key duo set to miss Easter Road clash
The Scotland international was forced off after just ten minutes of the Ibrox side’s 4-0 victory over Dundee United last weekend and manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed that the 28-year-old will be sidelined for several weeks.
Speaking ahead of the Gers’ Europa League match against Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar, Gerrard said: “Jack will be missing for a few weeks with a calf problem.”
Barker, who spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Hibs from Manchester City, is also unlikely to make the trip to the Capital after suffering a similar injury in the same game.
The 23-year-old has started Rangers’ last three matches but it appears he will be omitted from Sunday’s squad.
Gerrard added: “Barker will also be missing in the short-term with a calf problem.”
Neither player will take part in the European match but striker Alfredo Morelos – who replaced Barker at the weekend before going off injured himself in the second half – could feature against the Imps and potentially play a part in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash.
Defender Leon Balogun, who pulled up in the warm-up ahead of the last match, has also recovered and is in contention for the Europa League clash and Sunday’s league fixture.
Long-term absentees Joe Aribo and Nikola Katic remain out although striker Jermain Defoe could be involved after recovering from his own injury setback.
