Jack Ross has admitted that Hibs are on the cusp of signing St Mirren captain Kyle Magennis ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.

The 22-year-old midfielder was in attendance at Easter Road last night after the Saints accepted a bid earlier in the day. He watched on as Hibs chalked up their sixth Premiership victory of the season with a 3-2 win over Hamilton Accies.

Hibs manager Ross said: “I don't think it's quite formalised yet, but I would hope we would have it all concluded by Saturday morning.

“I'd be delighted and excited if we could do it.

“He's a player I gave his debut to at St Mirren and I've known him since he was a youngster. It would be a great addition for us.

“He fits the profile we had with Kevin [Nisbet] – a young Scottish player we think can improve and grow with us and potentially benefit us too in future.

“There's always a risk with every signing but we feel everything Kyle has attribute-wise is that he's worth it.

Ross expects the signing of Magennis to be his last move of the window.

“If we do anything else it would be out of the blue," he said. "I'm pretty happy with my group. They're a brilliant bunch of players."

The Easter Road boss was pleased with his team's latest triumph, which keeps them in third place and on 20 points despite a late comeback from Accies. A double from Kevin Nisbet and a Paul Hanlon strike had Hibs 3-0 ahead, but a penalty from Ross Callachan and a late own goal from Ryan Porteous made it a nervy finish.

Ross said: "It was a bit more nervy than I'd have anticipated considering how well we played. It was slightly strange having to run the ball into the corner to make sure we won the game. But a lot of credit goes to Brian [Rice, Hamilton manager] and his team for that, not many teams would have the energy to keep going at 3-0 down.

"But I'm loath to criticise the players because lots of the performance was really good."
