Jamie Gullan reveals reasons behind leaving Hibs on loan and Jack Ross' message to him

Jamie Gullan has admitted that his desire for regular football and “great memories” at Raith made it an easy decision to sign up for a third loan spell at Stark’s Park from Hibs.

The 21-year-old made a deadline day switch late on Monday night after finding game-time at Hibs increasingly sporadic.

Having experienced two successful loan spells at Raith in the past, Gullan did not have to think twice about rejoining John McGlynn’s men.

Gullan played the second 45 minutes during Rovers’ 4-1 loss at Dunfermline and he is hoping to kick on and help the push for a play-off spot in the Championship.

"It was quite late on Monday night,” Gullan recalled of the deal. “It was about 6pm when I got the all clear. We moved quite quickly and got it done. I'm buzzing to be back.

"I have great memories. The club, players, staff and fans know me and I love the place here. When I got the opportunity to come out on loan, this was where I wanted to come. I'm delighted to be back and hopefully get some game-time and some goals.

"It's obviously not good when you're sitting watching the games all the time. You feel you can contribute, but ultimately we've got a good squad at Hibs. It's not easy when strikers are banging them in. The boys are in a good run of form now, so it's always tough to break into that team. With Nizzy [Kevin Nisbet] staying, we have numbers up front so I knew the game-time was going to be limited. There's a lot of competition for places, so it's good to get out.

"Hopefully I'll get a good loan spell here under my belt again and I'll go back in the summer to try and get in the team.”

He left Hibs with a strong message from Easter Road boss Jack Ross: "Just show people what you can do,” Gullan said of Ross’ words to him as he departed for Fife. “Be positive every time you get on the pitch and try and get in amongst the goals.”
