Hibs are closing in on the signing of St Mirren midfielder Kyle Magennis after having a bid accepted for the player.

The Paisley club threw out two initial offers from the Capital club but are now on the verge of agreeing a deal with the Easter Road side that will see the 22-year-old team up with his former Buddies boss Jack Ross.

Magennis is reported to be undergoing a medical with Hibs this afternoon.

St Mirren claimed they had turned down a “substantial” bid from Hibs for their club captain earlier this week.

In a club statement, Jim Goodwin's side said they had “no desire” to sell the player amid serious interest from Ross, who worked with the Scotland Under-21 internationalist when he was in charge at the Simple Digital Arena.

Hibs have been looking to bolster their options in central midfield and have been linked with a string of players including Ross McCrorie, who last month joined Aberdeen.

St Mirren academy graduate Magennis has one year left on his contract but has not played since January 22, when he injured his knee against Rangers, although he is expected to be at full fitness after the international break.
