Calderwood still has eye on signings

Hibs boss Colin Calderwood hasn’t ruled out making further signings before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, today revealing “interesting names” continue to be put his way.

Calderwood took his summer signing tally to six by snapping up Aston Villa midfielder Isaiah Osbourne and Newcastle United youngster Phil Airey to add to the earlier arrivals of Ivan Sproule, Garry O’Connor, Sean O’Hanlon and Junior Agogo. But while admitting he had nothing to report at the moment as regards further transfer activity, Calderwood remains open to recruiting further fresh talent.

He said: “We have until the end of the month to conclude anything but there’s been one or two interesting phone calls and, as I thought, more and more players of various levels, but really good levels being put towards us. Some we won’t get anywhere close to on the financial point but there’s one or two I think we should be able to move forward with.”

Agogo, Osbourne and Airey are all in line to make their Easter Road debuts against St Mirren tomorrow having pulled on a green and white shirt as second-half substitutes in the 4-1 defeat by Kilmarnock last weekend. While conceding the margin of defeat at Rugby Park doesn’t reflect well on his team, Calderwood feels they are moving in the right direction.

The manager said: “I think this is a team that is developing and we’ve got to roll with the punches a little bit. I appreciate our fans feel the full effect of our results – we understand that. The group is determined to put on a display that gives them a victory and some happiness. We’ll make sure the team is right.”
