Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has conceded that there is a "strong possibility" that first team coach John Potter will follow Jack Ross to Hibs after the former Black Cats boss was named the Easter Road side's new head coach last week.

The Evening News' sister paper, the Sunderland Echo, reports that talks have already taken place between the two clubs, with further discussions planned.

Ross is understood to be keen on a reunion with Potter, who served as his first team coach during the duo's stint on Wearside, and Parkinson hinted that the former St Mirren and Dunfermline defender could be tempted by a return north.

The 39-year-old has remained in post at the Stadium of Light following Parkinson's arrival eight games ago.

Parkinson said: "There has been contact between the two clubs. I get on really well with John.

“We are having further talks about that this afternoon.

"The possibility is that the lure of going back home to Scotland will be one that John will take and if he does then we will wish him all the best.”

Sunderland would likely demand compensation from Hibs to allow Potter to again link up with Ross.
