It won’t be an unfamiliar role for the 34-year-old who captained Livi on numerous occasions during the 2019/20 season in the absence of Alan Lithgow.

Bartley moved to Livingston last summer following the expiry of his deal at Easter Road. He quickly emerged as an integral part of Gary Holt’s team and a fans’ favourite.

His combative, intelligent and forthright midfield play helped the club finish as the top team in the Lothians as they placed fifth when the Premiership was terminated.

Sorely missed in the middle of the pitch for Hibs last season, he can be regarded as one of the signings of last season.

Bartley, who also helped coach the club’s reserve team, made 36 appearances, scoring one goal, a volley at Tynecastle Park against Hearts.
