Hibs have bolstered their attacking options with the capture of Matty Yates from Rangers.

The 18-year-old centre-forward, who came up through the youth ranks at Rangers, has signed a deal until the summer and will be part of the Capital club's Under-18 squad and development teams.

He is likely to fill the gap left by Oli Shaw's transfer to Ross County. The 20-year-old striker had been featuring up front for Lee Makel's side but his departure last month has left a gap in the development squad playing pool and Yates will be avilable for selection alongside fellow attackers Jamie Gullan and Ryan Shanley.

Doig extends deal

Meanwhile, highly-rated defender Josh Doig has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Easter Road side, tying him to Hibs until the summer of 2023. The versatile 18-year-old, who can operate at centre-back or left-back, has also joined Queen's Park on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Doig's progress following his arrival from Hearts in the summer led to him joining the first-team squad for pre-season and winning a Scotland call-up to Billy Stark's Under-18 squad.

Speaking to Hibs' website, Doig said: “I didn’t have to think twice when I was offered the new contract. I’ve loved every minute of my time at Hibernian and I think I’ve improved in every area – athletically, mentally and technically.

“I’m excited to be going to Queen’s Park on loan and hopefully that will help me get closer to one day breaking into the first team here.”

Murray joins Airdrie on loan

His development squad colleague Innes Murray has also agreed a loan deal with League One promotion hopefuls Airdrieonians, where he will be working under former Easter Road captain Ian Murray.

Hibs' sporting director Graeme Mathie said: "Josh has continued to develop well since joining us in the summer. The loan at Queen’s Park is an excellent opportunity for him to play competitive football at a young age.

"Innes has also developed very well, particularly within the last year, and he is really keen to be playing regular competitive football at this stage in his career.

“The opportunity at Airdrie is great for all parties. It gives him experience and the challenge of playing at the top end of a division with a team hoping to achieve promotion and working under an ex-Hibee in Ian Murray will also be a good learning opportunity."
