Michael Weir: Aberdeen game is huge – it’s time Hibs proved they can win the big games

Aberdeen on Saturday is a big, big game for Hibs. They have a real chance of going five points clear of the Dons if they win as well as carrying on the good run of form that they are on.

The main thing is keeping ahead of Aberdeen in the table. There is still a lot of football to be played before the end of the season, and it's too early to discount any teams.

Livingston are on a roll, and there are still many games to come, but it is a big game for Hibs.

They are due a win against Aberdeen in an important match, and there's no better time than Saturday with Europe on the horizon.

That being said, I don't think the result at the weekend will define the season no matter who wins or if it ends up a draw but it would be great to see Hibs open up a bit of a gap between themselves and Aberdeen.

The Dons are going through a sticky patch of their own, and losing to Livingston on Tuesday night and drawing several games has ended up workking out well for Hibs given their own results.

Hibs look to be on a wee run now; they have won a good couple of games, and Saturday is a big opportunity to get a result that keeps them right up there.

Hopefully, Hibs can beat Aberdeen at the weekend and another defeat will put them on the backfoot. It would be a major blow for them because they have to find form somewhere.

For me though, it is a test that Hibs have to come through because they haven't really turned up against Aberdeen in recent seasons apart from the odd win. There have been too many games where they could have and should have got a result but fell short.

It would be a big game to win but I don't think it will secure Europe or anything like that; the season isn't over yet and as we know these things can change in the blink of an eye.

Jack Ross will know how big the game is for him personally. He's trying to build his own team and he's been a little unfortunate with some of the results in big games so far in my opinion.

I still think Hibs are a work in progress. The manager is trying to bring in his own players and while they need time to bed in, it is up to them to deal with the big games.

I don't think there will be anybody more disappointed than Jack that his team has struggled in the big games such as the two semi-finals, or even matches against Aberdeen, or Celtic and Rangers but I don't think he can be judged on that just yet.

For me, he still needs a bit more time to build a solid unit and a team that he trusts to go into these big games and win.
