Michael Weir: Aberdeen win was great - but Hibs will be judged on how they follow it up

Saturday was a great result for Hibs and puts them in a great position – but you cannot write off Aberdeen.

It was an excellent three points and there are huge positives to take from the way Hibs went about the game, but they now come up against sides who are struggling to stay in the league with Ross County on Saturday followed by Hamilton next weekend.

The important thing now is for Hibs not to let themselves down in these games. Yes, they will be difficult games. These teams are fighting for their lives and Hamilton showed against Rangers that they aren't going to lie down. No club is.

Hibs dropped points the last time they went to Dingwall, but on the back of beating Aberdeen, it's just about getting the right result on Saturday by going up there and winning.

No matter whether it is a good performance or a scrappy one it's all about getting points now. At this time of the season, it doesn't matter if the performances are not the best, getting the result is key and this is a great chance for Hibs over the next couple of weeks to really push on and get some consistency into their play.

These are the games I always judge us on – the likes of Ross County and Hamilton – where you are expected to win, and you fall short. Hopefully that's not the case and players can go and push on and cement third place in the table.

They dealt with the Dundee United and St Mirren away games well. They went there and won, which is never easy. The next two games are good fixtures for us and a real chance for the players to kick on now.

These players have now got to prove it over a sustained period of time and show, over a number of months, that they can play for Hibs week in, week out. Then going forward we can nail down a settled side that can push us forward over a number of seasons.

They’ll never get that if we keep bringing in loan deals and short-term contracts. Jack's done that well, but to really push the club forward, we need consistency at the club in terms of personnel.
