Michael Weir: Hibs fans should trust Jack Ross over Kyle Magennis signing

I’m sure it has been hard work trying to get players in during a pandemic, but Jack Ross can be reasonably satisfied with his transfer window.

He has strengthened in areas that needed strengthened, with the likes of Alex Gogic, Kevin Nisbet and Jamie Murphy, and he brought in Kyle Magennis from St Mirren on deadline day, who I don't know too much about, so we'll just have to see how he settles.

From what I’m hearing he is a decent player who can play in a number of positions, although I've not really seen the lad to make a comment.

But Jack has not been too far wrong in the market so far. His additions have been decent so we can only trust that he has seen something in Magennis that can make Hibs better.

I would certainly take the manager's judgement on it because, so far, he's done well in the market.

He's bought reasonably well and taken his time, which is always important when putting a squad together.

The key is not to rush it but slowly and surely add at the right time and I think the manager has done well in that respect.

I would have liked to have seen one or two more in but sometimes it's out of your hands when so many teams are chasing the same players, as we saw with Ross McCrorie.

But Jack seems to have got a squad together that he's happy with and he just needs to go with it now.

I would think he will look to strengthen again in January but that's always one that's dependent on how you are in the league and whether you need a wee boost for the run in.

I wouldn't think he'd want to do all his business in one window so January will be one when he could look at it again.

The other positive from the window is that Hibs didn't lose anyone. Keeping your good players is key to success.

It's okay for a manager to bring players in but if you lose one or two, that's when it becomes difficult.

But we've done okay and kept the players we wanted to keep so it's just about pushing on now and getting as high up that league as we possibly can.

Jack is starting to get his own team on the pitch now, adding a number of younger players, and at the moment the league table tells it's own story.

At the end of the day it's about getting results and that's what Jack's done. We are going well and we've just got to keep that going.

He's improved us in the departments that needed to improve and he'll know there's still a bit to come. But he's done well especially with what's happened with Covid making it a more difficult job trying to get players in.

But if he can settle this down and make us a reasonably good side then hopefully in time we'll only get better.
