Michael Weir: Hibs got back on track at Motherwell but Christmas period will make or break season

I'm hoping Saturday's win at Motherwell was a big turning point for Hibs.

I said a few weeks ago this was the game we should be targeting to get back on track, so full credit to the staff and the players. It was a big result and it's now just a matter of finding consistency. Hopefully that just gives them a bit more confidence to go and win more games. If they can get another wee run going over Christmas, that's a period that can really make or break your season.

Aberdeen have a game in hand but they look to have hit a ropey patch, and they're now going to have to react to it as well. They looked as if they were going to run away with third place but they've just hit a wee spell and if Hibs can stay in there, who knows how far it could go. The main thing is getting a wee run going again and getting performances consistently. We've not really had good consistent performances for a number of weeks. If we can get that, then we're got more than enough to stay in the pack.

This is when the games all start to get bigger and bigger. What they don't want to do now is go there and underestimate Hamilton. I've watched them two or three times this season and they are not as bad as people are making them out to be. They've had bad results but they've reacted and got a couple of results together to get themselves back into it. But Hibs have got to make sure they follow up now with two or three results in a row and see how Aberdeen handle the pressure. Then there’s a semi-final at stake in Alloa on Tuesday night where Hibs have to make sure they go and earn it.

They should be more confident in themsleves now after that result and looking forward to the next challenge. The last month or so has been difficult, but it's how you come through your sticky spell, and getting through it will be good for them. Hopefully it kicks them on now and gives them belief they can stay in the top three.
