Ofir Marciano's fantastic double save near the end of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Rangers came at the right time for Hibs because if we'd lost a goal there I think the game was over.

You need your goalkeeper to keep you in the game at certain times and that's what he does. You can see from his recent performances that he's a good goalkeeper.

It's something we always had at the club all through the years I was there - and you do need it. That's your starting point.

You can talk about defenders and strikers, but if you've got a good goalkeeper who can keep you in games when you're needed, when you've maybe not had much to do but he makes a good save to keep you in it, then it makes all the difference.

Like a lot of them, I feel there's still more to come from him. Sometimes he's really at the top of his game and sometimes he has wee dips, but if he can get the consistency into his game, then Hibs have got a good goalkeeper there.

He's in the final year of his contract and Hibs will want to keep him, but it's really up to what he feels. You just never know what players are thinking but if we can get him tied down, he's certainly shown he's got the quality.

He's got great experience, and to be fair to him, he's just one of those goalkeepers that keeps you in games. Rangers had a chance, and those are the saves that turn games for you. He gave us a good chance to get a result. Good goalkeepers are always needed, and they are very difficult to come by.

It was a good overall team performance but another who impressed me was Joe Newell. It's the best I've seen him and he showed great energy in the middle of the pitch. It suited him with the three in there which allowed him to get into forward positions along with Drey Wright.

The whole team has a great work ethic just now and long may that continue.
