Ofir Marciano latest as Hibs boss Jack Ross eyes goalkeeping reinforcements amid Matt Macey link

Hibs boss Jack Ross is hopeful of bolstering his goalkeeping options sooner rather than later, with the Easter Road side aiming to bring in a new shot-stopper before the weekend.

Goalkeeping coach Craig Samson was named on the bench for Saturday's 3-0 loss to Livingston after Ofir Marciano’s planned comeback was dashed when the No.1 tweaked a groin injury during the pre-match warm-up.

Back-up goalie Dillon Barnes took over the gloves from the Israeli internationalist but was then recalled by parent club Queen's Park Rangers on Monday, leaving Ross with Samson as his only fit senior ‘keeper at Easter Road.

Kevin Dabrowski, who lined up against Celtic at Parkhead in a pre-season friendly, has already been recalled from a loan spell with League One side Dumbarton while Arsenal’s Matt Macey has also been linked with a move to the Capital.

Hibs face the Hoops in Glasgow on Monday night and a deal could be done for another option between the sticks by Friday morning, according to the club's head coach.

Ross said: “We were in a difficult position 24-48 hours ago, given our goalkeeping coach was our only fit goalkeeper.

"We found ourselves in a difficult position with Dillon [Barnes] returning to QPR, and Ofir [Marciano] will be out for probably two to three weeks.

"We needed to make sure we had depth and quality within that department and we are hoping that by Friday morning at the latest we will have another goalkeeper in at the club.”

While Ross didn’t identify Hibs' primary target in that area, several reports have suggested Macey could be on the verge of a move north.

The 26-year-old is third choice at the Emirates with Bernd Leno and Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson ahead of him in the pecking order, and is understood to be open to leaving Mikel Arteta’s side in search of regular game time, having been linked with an exit during the last transfer window.

Ross contined: “We recalled Kevin Dabrowski from his loan spell at Dumbarton and we need to add another goalkeeper as well.

"Hopefully within 24 hours we will have three good goalkeepers who will provide healthy competition for each other."
