The on-field captain was an early casualty, leaving the field in the 21st minute, and his manager, Jack Ross, is not hopeful of the Scotland international’s immediate return to the side.

“Well assess him on Wednesday but the weekend might be too early for him.”

The more likely target would be the next league game, away to Motherwell. Ross added. “That next league game is not until the following weekend.”

The defender, who has featured in 18 club games so far this season and has helped the team to six clean sheets, sustained the injury early in the game and could not continue.

“I think he just felt early in the game an issue with his groin. He was lacking full mobility. So, from the opening minutes we were thinking of making the change.”
