Photo tribute to Hibs legend Pat Stanton as all-time great gathers pals for 80th birthday bash

Pat picks his team-mates and pals for - he hopes - St Johnstone celebration

Hibs great Pat Stanton turns 80 today. And the all-time favourite has picked a full squad of Easter Road legends to join him at tomorrow’s home clash with St Johnstone.

Stanton, who made over 600 appearances for Hibs as a player before stepping into manage the club in the early 1980s, is widely regarded as one of the finest footballers ever to pull on the green-and-white. He’s still a regular attendee at matches – and is often to be found popping into the training ground at East Mains.

While the club hosted a special heritage event for Stanton last night, fan group Hibernian Supporters Limited offered the great man a chance to pull together a dream team of guests for hospitality at tomorrow’s Scottish Premiership tie. Asked to hand pick his party guests, Stanton went for a whole host of old team-mates and friends.

Jackie McNamara Snr, John Brownlie and John Blackley are among those on the guest list, as are Jim McArthur and Alex Edwards. Also in attendance will be Tony Higgins, John Hazel, Ally McLeod, Iain Munro, Mike McDonald, Lindsay Muir, Darren Jackson and Paul Kane, along with HSL chair Jim Adie.

Ahead of that all-star line-up gathering to pay tribute to the great man, we take a look back at some iconic photos - and one or two less obvious highlight snaps - from Stanton’s Hibernian career.
