Hibs midfielder Scott Allan has been ruled out of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash with Rangers as he deals with an ongoing health issue.

The 28-year-old sat out last weekend’s trip to St Mirren and watched the game from the stands after picking up a knock in training but Easter Road boss Jack Ross confirmed on Friday that the playmaker would also be out for the match with Rangers and the foreseeable future.

Speaking in his broadcast press conference ahead of Sunday’s fixture, Ross said: “Scott Allan has a health issue at the moment that we are investigating further, so he’ll be missing for the upcoming period until we investigate it further and get him back fit and healthy.

"It’s a private and confidential matter, so if and when we have more understanding of it we’ll be prepared to comment, but at the moment it rules him out for Sunday and the immediate games coming up after."

Allan has played five times for Hibs this season, starting the matches against Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, and Aberdeen and coming on as a sub against Dundee United and Motherwell.

Ross suggested that Allan could still play a part on Sunday by filling the “eyes in the stand” role carried out by Stephen McGinn prior to his signing.

Ross continued: “Steven Whittaker did it for me last year, this Sunday it will probably be Scott and Jamie [Murphy].

"Selfishly, there is a benefit to me from a management point of view but it also helps improve their knowledge and understanding of the game.”
