Sheffield Wednesday directly answer question over Hibs transfer move as boss addresses 'rumours'

The Sheffield Wednesday striker has emerged on the Hibs radar this winter transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday have answered a question on Hibs moving for an Owls striker.

Hibs have looked into the potential of signing Jamaican international Bailey Cadamarteri this window but have not offered a seven figure bid as per some reports down south. They won’t be expecting to pay that kind of fee either if they press ahead with a move for Cadamarteri who has been a regular for Sheffield Wednesday. They are in administration currently as they fight on in the English Championship.

He’s been a regular at second tier level in England this season and his future, plus a possible move to the Premiership at Hibs, has been directly put to Owls gaffer Henrik Pedersen after the weekend loss to Portsmouth.

Will Hibs sign striker from Sheffield Wednesday?

Pedersen was asked: “Hibernian were interested in Bailey Cadamarteri. We've seen that Rangers have been reported to have made contact about Max Lowe. Have you been given any information by the administrators about whether players need to be sold in this month?

“The club is still in a situation where it's in administration. Somehow, whether it's the preferred bidder or the club itself, it needs to fund itself, doesn't it? Have you been given any information on whether the club does have to sell?”

He responded: “I've just been given the information when there has been a concrete offer. Then they asked me what I think about it. This is the only thing about all the rumours. There has been one offer. They have just asked me one time and I gave my opinion.”

Barry Bannan transfer latest

There have also been reports linking former Scotland international Barry Bannan with a return north of the border following his legendary Sheffield Wednesday stint. Pedersen said when asked about the noise around his experienced captain: “I don't hope we do it. I really hope he will stay here. He's very important for all of us, for all the fans, for everyone. So I cannot say how likely and how likely it's not. I can say I hope that he will stay for sure. I speak every day with Barry. Of course I have. Of course it's interesting for Barry like it's interesting for other players we have.

“I can just say I hope that he will stay. He has just told me that there is interest. I told him, of course there is interest for you, Barry. You are still a very good player and you are very important for us. Then let's see. He has to follow his heart. He has to think on himself. I can just say on Barry, he means a lot for me, personally. He means a lot for the team. Of course I hope he will stay.”

The Hibees are looking to strengthen this window with the forward area one place they could look to do that. A setback was had at the weekend as they lost 1-0 to Championship side Dunfermline Athletic in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, which they last won back in 2016.
