Sheffield Wednesday to sanction striker exit as deadline day Wrexham 'medical' ends Hibs transfer murmurs
Wrexham are set to sign a star Hibs had on their transfer radar.
Wrexham look set to end speculation surrounding a Hibs linked striker on deadline day by capturing him from Sheffield Wednesday.
After the big money departure of Kieron Bowie to Hellas Verona, Easter Road head coach David Gray went seeking forward reinforcement. Owen Elding of Sligo Rovers signed permanently and Dane Scarlett arrived on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, while Ante Suto of Slaven Belupo watched Sunday’s Premiership draw with Rangers live in Leith after good form in Croatia.
Sheffield Wednesday striker Bailey Cadamarteri came back to the fore for some as Bowie headed for Italy, having been on the Hibs radar in January. They weren’t prepared to get embroiled in an expensive bidding war with clubs in the English Championship who had rumoured interest and now one of them looks set to end the murmurs, as Wrexham move out in front to sign the Owls forward. A deadline day medical is now scheduled as the Red Dragons look to get that deal done with a side currently in administration.
Where will Bailey Cadamarteri sign on deadline day?
It’s claimed in the Sheffield Star: “Bailey Cadamarteri’s departure from Sheffield Wednesday is nearing completion, The Star understands, with a medical at Championship side Wrexham scheduled for this afternoon. The Jamaica international has been the subject of widespread interest from a host of clubs throughout the window as the Owls look to raise with funds through player sales.
“(Sheffield Wednesday) have accepted a deadline day deal as the administration-hit club seeks to raise funds to safeguard against the threat of a future cashflow shortfall. The fee of the transfer to be in the region of £1m, with the Owls set to recoup a sell-on bonus if the forward is to be sold on for a profit in the future.
“Wrexham are thought to have committed to a hefty up-front payment of the transfer fee, which will go some way to easing concerns around cashflow coffers.
What have Sheffield Wednesday said about Bailey Cadamarteri’s future?
Speaking over the weekend, Owls boss Henrik Pedersen said of the striker’s future amid Hibs and Wrexham swirls: "I would love to keep him. I'm really happy for Bailey - he's one of our own. It means a lot that we can bring players from the academy to the first team so of course I hope we can keep him and develop him to the next level.”
Scarlett and Elding both debuted in the draw against Rangers on Sunday, and it remains to be seen if Suto joins them before the end of the window. Bochum right-back Felix Passlack is another on the agenda for Hibs as they seek more transfers to end a busy last week in the winter market.
