Former Hibs player Steven Whittaker has signed for Dunfermline Athletic.

The versatile 36-year-old was released by the Easter Road club upon the expiry of his contract last month, but Pars manager Stevie Crawford has moved swiftly to sign him for the 2020/21 campaign.

Whittaker – capped 31 times by Scotland - will double up as a coach with the East End Park outfit and has penned a one-year-contract.

He will join with his new Dunfermline team-mates once pre-season resumes and will offer competition in defence and midfield.

The ex-Hibee will come up against Hearts in the Scottish Championship when the league begins, which is scheduled to be October 17.
