Kevin Nisbet struck his 12th goal of the campaign with 18 minutes on the clock as Hibs looked to return to winning ways after drawing with Dundee United at the weekend.

The hosts and the visitors were both reduced to ten men towards the end of the game with Brandon Mason seeing red for the Buddies and Christian Doidge receiving his marching orders for the home side.

David Igoe breathed a sigh of relief: "Hard earned but deserved win. Hibby Christmas!"

Alicia Souter added: "Wasn’t pretty at the end but great result none the less."

Freddie White wrote: "Great 3 points for Hibs. Not pretty to watch but we’ll take that."

Chris Finn mused: "Joe Newell is that type of player where you think if he just added more goals and assists to his game then he’d take us to the next level but at the same time as soon as he adds that he won’t play for Hibs anymore. Technique to die for."

Mikey Stewart (not that one) said: "Massive 3 points tonight for Hibs, especially after dropping points at the weekend, and Aberdeen dropping points tonight."

Pete Gray was satisfied: "Hibs third for Christmas? That’ll do, donkey."

Ryan McGregor added: "Good to see Hibs seeing it out for three points tonight. Now on to Ibrox. Looking forward to celebrating another masterclass by Porteous to get a draw."

Connor Handren tweeted: "Kevin Nisbet is a proper striker, not just his goals but the work he does off the ball and how he brings others in to play is phenomenal, Steve Clarke’s eyes are painted on if he doesn’t get a Scotland call-up soon, best Hibs signing in years and definitely won't be at Hibs long."

Stern words from Dougie Todman: "Big 3 points, and it’s pleasing to pick up points when you don’t play well but Ross’s game management was poor today. The shape didn’t work from the 1st minute, refused to change. Also took too long to make further substitutions, when we had options on the bench."
