Hibs kid Connor Young recently joined Civil Service Strollers on loan and the teenager got his temporary stint off to a fine start with the winner in Strollers’ 4-3 win at Whitburn Juniors on Saturday.

The striker was turning out for the Capital club’s Under-16 side as recently as November last year, and will spend the 2020/21 campaign in north Edinburgh along with Easter Road team-mate Jack Brydon, a centre-back.

Despite his tender years, Young hasn’t been shy in making a mark at Christie Gillies Park. He featured for the Lowland League outfit in a recent friendly against near-neighbours Edinburgh City and was on free kick duties for Gary Jardine’s side, striking the bar with one spectacular effort.

However, his first strike for Strollers came from open play as he unleashed a powerful shot from 30 yards that left the Whitburn ‘keeper motionless.

Young’s effort eventually separated the two sides after a see-saw game in which the West Lothian outfit thrice pegged Strollers back in an end-to-end game in the September sunshine.

The visitors took the lead after just three minutes, Aliou Faye converting a penalty but the hosts equalised shortly after.

Strollers retook the lead on 18 minutes only for Whitburn to again square the scoreline on the half-hour mark, but a 35th-minute goal ensured the Edinburgh side would take a narrow lead into the half-time interval.

The juniors levelled a third time early in the second half but had no response to Young’s screamer as Strollers continued their pre-season preparations ahead of the resumption of football in the fifth tier.
