'We are more than good enough to trouble Rangers' - Fans' predictions for Hibs v Rangers

It’s fair to say I keep underestimating our defence. My brain wants to think of Hibs of old, and expects us to concede at least once each game.

I thought we were solid against St Mirren and Joe Newell showed the type of form we desperately need to see from him on a regular basis.

Moving on to Rangers, it’ll be interesting to see how we set up. Will we stick with 4-42, or, do we maybe move to a more 4-5-1/4-3-3? Regarding the game itself, I’m torn. Rangers are flying and have shown to be very tight at the back, and, although our performance levels have been up and down, we’ve continued to stay solid defensively. I’m aware Rangers had a midweek game including travel, but the game didn’t seem very testing and if anything should have kept their confidence levels up, but even the best Rangers teams have suffered from Euro hangovers.

Taking all that into account, I’m almost going to sit on the fence and go for a hard-fought draw. Prediction: Hibs 1-1 Rangers

Now that’s more like it! Free-flowing, attacking football, goals galore and a clean sheet in Paisley, what more can you want?

I’m delighted that Joe Newell got a goal last weekend and can now build on two man-of-the-match performances as he looks to strengthen what is turning in to a solid midfield partnership with Alex Gogic.

Another week passes with zero goals conceded from open play which is an incredible feat given we have navigated some very tricky fixtures along the way.

In theory we couldn’t be in better shape going in to the huge fixture against Rangers on Sunday but the result will massively depend on the way we setup in the game. Whilst we of course must respect this Rangers side we shouldn’t steer away from what we’ve been doing well so far.

It’s been evident over the years that the way to tackle the Old Firm is to get at them early doors and put them on the back foot. We have more than a good enough side to trouble Rangers particularly with the pace and power of Boyle and Nisbet respectively. Prediction: Hibs 1-1 Rangers

It was great to see Hibs bounce back last week from their disappointing display against Aberdeen and dominate from start to finish. We were the better side all over the park and never looked in any real danger. We also played some nice stuff as well, which for me was missing the past few weeks! Joe Newell was fantastic last week and when he plays well Hibs seem to tick over nicely.

Granted St Mirren were poor but we still played nice football at times which is what we want to see along with 3 points. Sadly this week we go into the game without Murphy who I thought was very good last week. I’d expect a straight swap with Wright coming back in. I hope we do stay with the 4-4-2 and press Rangers as high as possible.

Rangers will be coming into this full of confidence and will want another clean sheet to make it eight in a row. Both defences have been solid so far so it’s going to be an interesting afternoon.

Sadly I’m not as confident as I have been with previous games. We seem to have gone back the way when we play either of the Glasgow two and seem to just sit in and not have a go. I’m hoping that changes, but I can’t see it happening this weekend. I’m going for a close game with a 1-2 away win. Prediction: Hibs 1-2 Rangers

Last week’s win in Paisley was a thoroughly professional performance. Whilst St Mirren didn’t offer much going forward, we were business-like in front of goal and the score reflected our dominance. Sadly I think our record of not conceding from open play will come to an end today.

Rangers have looked assured all season (aside from one blip against Livingston) and looked menacing enough against Dundee United and Lincoln Red Imps. They have an embarrassment of riches in both midfield and attack even if they are carrying a few injuries.

That said, I fancy our chances on Sunday, with a whole week’s rest compared to just two days for Rangers, I think we can catch Rangers cold. We’ll need to be near our best but I fancy the Hibees to hang in there. Prediction: Hibs 1-1 Rangers

On Sunday, Hibs will face Rangers at Easter Road in front of the Sky cameras. It will be a battle of both Glasgow and Edinburgh’s top teams and Hibs will be pleased if they take anything away from the game.

Both teams are coming into this game after wins. Hibs beat St Mirren 3-0 last week with a once-again fit Kevin Nisbet opening the scoring. Joe Newell was another one who impressed with his attacking abilities and got his first goal of the season.

However, it is unfortunate for Hibs that Jamie Murphy can’t face his parent club.

Hibs fans will expect the defence to be working hard against the array of attacking options that Rangers have at their disposal.

It will be interesting to see how Jack Ross lines his team up, whether he will play two up top and be brave enough to stick to the flat four in midfield that he played against St Mirren or whether he tries something new. Prediction: Hibs 1-2 Rangers
