Ofir Marciano has been the recipient of plaudits for some of his exploits this season, but Hibs’ goalkeeper took his form to another level with a spectacular double-save from Scott Arfield as Hibs drew 2-2 with Rangers at Easter Road.

The Israeli put in an impressive performance throughout the 90 minutes, but it was his feat to deny Arfield when the score was tied at 2-2 which really caught the eye.

The 30-year-old blocked the Canadian’s initial effort from close range, but the ball bounced back to the Rangers man and he appeared certain to put the ball into the empty goal. However, Marciano leapt back up from the turf to make a tremendous save.

Here was the reaction from both the Hibs and Rangers camp …

Jack Ross, Hibs head coach: “Ofir’s in a really good place just now, physically, mentally. He’s in good condition and psychologically how he feels about his game. That’s reflected in the double stop, in particular, as well as other ones.”

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard: “Scott gets great contact on his first one and the second one is a great save.”

Hibs team-mate Ryan Porteous: “He made a brilliant double save today and a couple of snap saves. I am really pleased for him.”

Arfield, the man he denied: “I need to score there, I can’t get it out of my head. The first one is a good save but I should finish it. I think he just throws his body at the second one but it shouldn’t come to that. I have got to score it.”
