Tollcross Thistle reached the quarter-finals of the Kelme Scottish Amateur Cup for the first time after they defeated Dundee-based Mensieshill AFC 3-1 away from home on Saturday.

The LEAFA Saturday Premier Division league leaders will learn of their opponents in the last eight in tomorrow's draw at Hampden Park after their terrific win on the road.

Tollcross were quick out of the traps and took the lead from Ciaran Duffy’s header which he sent into the net at the back post after getting on the end of Stewart O’Neill’s free-kick.

Duffy then made it two when he stuck out a leg to direct Kevin Smith’s shot goalwards.

Alan McKay’s side were already looking ahead to the next round when they made it three on 55 minutes. Scotland Amateur Internationalist Michael Yuill turned on the edge of the box and sent a toe poke into the bottom corner following a quick passing interchange between O’Neill and Stewart Crozier.

Menzieshill would pull a goal back but that didn’t knock Tollcross out of their stride as they saw the game out comfortably.

Elsewhere, Sandys are also in the draw for the quarter-finals but face a replay at home to Braehead AFC in their last-16 replay this Saturday after they drew 1-1 in Renfrewshire. Lauriston Thistle exited the competition after they lost 5-1 away to Eastfield AFC.

Edinburgh East through on penalties

Edinburgh East prevailed 3-1 winners on penalties away to fellow LEAFA outfit Meadowmill AFC after a 1-1 draw in normal time to go through to the quarter-finals of the Only Sport Sunday Amateur Trophy.

In a closely-fought encounter between afternoon outfit East and their morning visitors, it was the home side who took the lead after a goalless first half when Jon Manson converted from two yards out from Dan McLean’s corner-kick.

Meadowmill would equalise just ten minutes later on the counter attack to take the tie to penalties where East goalkeeper Jordan Richardson would emerge as the hero as he saved three spot-kicks, while team-mates McLean, Aaron Blues and Paul Murray all netted.

Royal Penicuik leapfrogged local rivals Wallyford Bluebell into joint first in the Premier Division table with a 2-1 victory at Fisherrow.

Lee Edwardson fired Bluebell in front after 14 minutes, but Penicuik would hit back with Ross Montgomery twice finding the net either side of half-time to take all three points.
